Matthew 28:18-20

[18] And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (ESV)

Discipleship is THE COMMAND

Matthew 28:18-19a

The Hebrew word is talmid, and it simply means “a student of a teacher or philosopher”—not just a learner but a practitioner of an embodied way of life, one who is diligently working to be with and become like their master. – John Mark Comer, Practicing the Way

“May you be covered in the dust of your rabbi.” (first-century Jewish blessing)

Discipleship is COMPREHENSIVE

Matthew 28:19b-20

3 v. 269

The greatest issue facing the world today, with all its heartbreaking needs, is whether those who…are identified as “Christians” will become disciples—students, apprentices, practitioners—of Jesus Christ, steadily learning from him how to live the life of the Kingdom of the Heavens into every corner of human existence. – Dallas Willard

And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. – Luke 2:52

Discipleship is COSTLY COMMITMENT

Matthew 28:20b

A Prayer for Salvation

“Heavenly Father, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through your Son Jesus I can be more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you that he lived the life I should have lived and paid the debt and punishment I owed. Receive me now for his sake. I turn from my sins and receive him as Savior. Amen.”
